For October we recognize Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a collaborative effort between the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the National Cyber Security Alliance, established in 2004. This month-long campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity and encourage proactive steps to enhance online safety.
Four Easy Ways to Stay Safe Online
Let’s Secure Our World through the simple behavior changes below that will make us all MUCH SAFER.
- Recognize and report phishing
- Use strong passwords
- Turn on multifactor authentication
- Update software
The Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) theme for this year’s Cybersecurity month is to ‘Secure Our World’ and includes topics not just on the way that we protect our business but also how we can protect our homes and families as well.
Many of these topics are mentioned repeatedly, Strong Passwords, MFA and Updating Software. Unfortunately, these simple safeguards are not routinely implemented at work and at home, even when readily available from most of the software and services we use.
In closing, please take these reminders and put together a plan to implement them as soon as possible wherever you can both at work and at home before the month of October ends.
