Reading Time: 3 minutes

The HVAC-R industry is evolving—and safety strategies are leading the way. At AHR 2026, explore how a connected approach simplifies compliance, enhances detection, and protects both people and assets. From refrigerant monitoring to integrated safety solutions, connectivity is shaping the future of HVAC-R safety.

To help HVAC-R professionals navigate these changes, MSA Safety will showcase its end-to-end refrigerant management, leak detection, and connectivity solutions at AHR Expo, February 2–4 in Las Vegas. Visit us at Booth #C1436.

Advancing Refrigerant Leak Detection

Refrigerant leak detection remains a critical focus as the industry transitions to new refrigerants and updated safety standards. At AHR, MSA Safety will be unveiling its latest simplified refrigerant detection solution, The MSA Bacharach® X30 and X50 Refrigerant Monitors. A dependable solution built for simplicity and performance – designed for use across a range of HVAC-R applications.

From intuitive installation and mobile app setup to swappable sensor modules that minimize time in the field, the X30 and X50 refrigerant monitors are built for reliable detection and flexible system integration. Whether upgrading existing equipment or deploying across varied applications, these monitors deliver consistent, dependable performance.

MSA’s Next Generation in Enhanced Refrigerant Detection

Join MSA Safety HVAC-R Fixed Detection Product Line Manager Victoria Vernacchio in the AHR Expo New Product Theater, Theater C, on Tuesday, February 3 at 11:45 a.m. to learn more about the new Bacharach X30 and X50 monitors, as well as best practices for using advanced sensing technologies for detecting R-Gases, A2Ls, and carbon dioxide (CO2). Add to your show planner.

In addition to the new refrigerant monitors, MSA Safety will feature a comprehensive refrigerant management portfolio that includes:

  • Low-Level Leak Detection systems
  • Parasense Refrigerant Tracking & Compliance Software
  • Portable Leak Detection

Together, these solutions provide actionable data intended to help users address their own compliance needs, improve operational efficiency, and support sustainability and cost-reduction goals through improved leak management.

Extending Protection Beyond Refrigerants

While refrigerant detection is essential, HVAC-R environments often present additional safety risks. Mechanical rooms and equipment spaces may include combustion sources, utility gases, or confined areas where oxygen levels can change—hazards that refrigerant monitors are not designed to detect.

To address these risks, MSA Safety will also be showcasing its fixed gas detection solutions, including the TG5000 and ULTIMA® X5000 gas monitors.

These systems are designed to continuously monitor for:

  • Combustible gases (propane, methane)
  • Toxic gases (carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, ammonia)
  • Oxygen deficiency or enrichment

By complementing refrigerant leak detection, fixed gas detection supports a more complete safety strategy for HVAC-R facilities.

Connecting Detection Systems with FieldServer

Across refrigerant detection and fixed gas detection alike, connectivity plays an increasingly important role in how data is used. FieldServer protocol gateways are designed to help securely connect detection devices to building automation systems (BAS), industrial networks, and cloud-based platforms.

By supporting a wide range of protocols including BACnet and Modbus, FieldServer protocol gateways help bridge diverse HVAC-R devices—both legacy and modern—enabling centralized monitoring, improved visibility, and more informed operational decision-making.

A Layered Approach to HVAC-R Safety

At AHR Expo, discover how refrigerant leak detection, fixed gas monitoring, and system connectivity combine to create a comprehensive safety strategy for HVAC-R operations. Instead of relying on a single solution, a layered approach addresses multiple risks—helping protect people, equipment, and product integrity while improving efficiency in today’s complex mechanical and refrigeration environments.

See the Complete Detection Ecosystem at AHR

MSA Safety’s refrigerant detection, fixed gas detection, and FieldServer connectivity solutions will be featured at Booth #C1436. Attendees are invited to speak with MSA experts, see new technologies on display, and learn how end-to-end detection strategies can help support today’s HVAC-R challenges and future system needs.

Don’t Miss Our Giveaway!

We’re excited to offer attendees a chance to win Leakator® Jr. Combustible Gas Leak Detector & an ALTAIR® Single-Gas Detector.  Register online or stop by our booth #C1436 at AHR Expo to enter.
